Interpolating Intermediate Views of Stationary Objects

چکیده

View interpolation has many applications in 3D graphics, visualization, animation, and image sequence compression. I present an implementation of a particular interpolation scheme, proposed by M. Hansard and B. Buxton in Proc. 6th European Conference on Computer Vision (I), 191-202. 2000. [1]. Given two images of an object, this method can synthesize intermediate views without explicit reference to the camera or scene geometry. All that is required is two basis views and the linear relationship between combinations of affine projections of an object. By fitting polynomial models to the parameters of this relationship a simple and effective synthesis results. While [1] dealt mainly with theoretical aspects and proof of concept, this work represents an interactive implementation of the complete algorithm. Particular attention was paid to non-trivial rendering issues such as handling of hidden surfaces. Some original methods of reducing rendering artifacts in the synthesized views are presented in conclusion. The result is a simple application tool for comparing parametric interpolation with morphing plus an analysis of the algorithm’s performance on real world examples.

Novel Temporal Views of Moving Objects for Gait Biometrics

There is increasing interest in novel view reconstruction but less for new time-based views of moving objects as needed for gait biometric deployment. Our interests concern reconstructing moving shapes from their moment history with a view to constructing new temporal views. This paper shows how the moment description through an object sequence can be used to predict missing or intermediate fra...

Some New Methods for Prediction of Time Series by Wavelets

Extended Abstract. Forecasting is one of the most important purposes of time series analysis. For many years, classical methods were used for this aim. But these methods do not give good performance results for real time series due to non-linearity and non-stationarity of these data sets. On one hand, most of real world time series data display a time-varying second order structure. On th...

View Interpolation along a Chain of Weakly Calibrated Cameras

This paper presents an algorithm for interpolating intermediate views along a chain of cameras. There is no restriction on the camera placement as long as the distance between successive cameras is not too large. The interpolated views lie on a virtual poly-line defined by the (ordered) set of cameras. Our algorithm requires no strong camera calibration as the necessary epipolar geometry is est...

Manipulating and recognizing virtual objects: where the action is.

In an earlier report (Harman, Humphrey, & Goodale, 1999), we demonstrated that observers who actively rotated three-dimensional novel objects on a computer screen later showed faster visual recognition of these objects than did observers who had passively viewed exactly the same sequence of images of these virtual objects. In Experiment 1 of the present study we showed that compared to passive ...

A theoretical study on an accurate reconstruction of multiview images based on the Viterbi algorithm

Utilizing the Viterbi algorithm, a forward dynamic programming technique, and a compact disparity graph representation, reconstruction of intermediate views is made possible, including those objects whose views are occluded from various viewpoints. Based on the camera con guration for capture of multiview images, and the one-to-one correspondence between a real world point and its multiview ima...
